About NFHC

Community Education Program
In the early 1990s, Northland Family Help Center began a proactive Community Education program designed to decrease instances of sexual and relationship violence. Currently, it includes the P.E.A.C.E. Project, MARS Project, and other educational programs and training workshops for community members and youth.

NFHC’s Community Education Program provides interactive education presentations and training targeting rape prevention and education. Topics and discussions are arranged for specific age groups and special populations. The P.E.A.C.E. Project engages teens in peer education through dramatic presentations and discussion, while the M.A.R.S. Project educates the NAU community.

Positive Youth Connections
Positive Youth Connections (PYC) is a youth focused program that seeks to educate various members of the youth community. There are several components to PYC that work together to form a comprehensive educational prevention plan.

The components of the Positive Youth Connections program include:

  • Youth multi-session workshops
  • Art Projects surrounding the ideas of Healthy Relationships and Sexual Violence Prevention
  • Multi-Media Projects surrounding the ideas of Healthy Relationships and Sexual Violence Prevention
  • Workshops and/or material distribution for parents/guardians, school personnel, youth and staff
  • Youth community-wide activity options focusing on sexual violence prevention and education
  • PEACE Project performances*
Positive Youth Connections is dedicated to the primary prevention of sexual violence in the lives of our youth.  We will tailor each training to fit within your program, class, curriculum or organization.  We believe that EVERYONE benefits from Healthy Relationships-Invite us to come and work with your youth community!

*The PEACE Project is an innovative traveling youth theatre troupe that, through their performances and follow-up dialogue, seek to educate the community and their peers about youth issues. They focus their performances upon youth empowerment, and the prevention of gender and relationship violence, using art and communication as their primary tools of education.

Northland Family Help Center is dedicated to the elimination of sexual and relationship violence in Northern Arizona.

Because of this dedication, NFHC is strategically using several cutting edge theories to enhance the reach of prevention education.

To begin, our programs are running on the Ecological Model. The Ecological Model is a way to make sure we are addressing Primary Prevention through education at all levels of society.  We aim to educate the individual, family and friends, the school systems and the larger city.  We have shifted our curriculum to focus on multi session presentations in order to really saturate our audience with sexual violence prevention education.

We know that in this day and age it is very difficult for everyone to find time for anything.  However, we also know that our material and our presentations prevent rape.  That is really important to us.  In order to reach that level of prevention, we have to comply to our 3 or more session curriculum.  This way we can saturate our students with skill sets needed to have healthy relationships that are violence free.

By approaching education in this manner, we are going to be able to change Northern Arizona into a more friendly and healthy place for Families!

All of NFHC’s trainings are presented with relevant, localized and reliable statistics, grounded in theory, and culturally specific. Every training is presented through the use of several presentation methods (interactive theatre, video, creative expression, guided discussion and limited lecture).

ALL TRAININGS AND WORKSHOPS ARE FREE!
