Time Line:

1978: Northland Crisis Nursery opens its doors for the first time with five beds for children under the age of four; Women's Resource Center becomes a non-profit organization.

1979: Northland Crisis Nursery secures licensing for children up to the age of 10; Northland Crisis Nursery initiates contract with Child Protective Services.

1980: Northland Crisis Nursery Board approves a 1,000 sq./ft addition to the Nursery, adding three beds and a playroom.

1981: Women's Resource Center requests a facility from the city, given a shelter which held three beds.

1983: Women's Resource Center changes locations, increasing the number of beds to 10; Women's Resource Center changes its name to Center Against Domestic Violence.

1985: Northland Crisis Nursery utilizes a $25,000 donation to renovate a new facility, increasing the number of beds to 14; Northland Crisis Nursery develops their "Time Out" program, and dedicates three of its beds to children who need a temporary separation from their parents.

1989: Northland Crisis Nursery begins to operate as Northland Family Help Center; Center Against Domestic Violence requests help from Northland Family Help Center to help relieve the sizeable debt.

1991: Center Against Domestic Violence finishes paying off its debts; Center Against Domestic Violence joins Northland Crisis Nursery, both operate under the title of Northland Family Help Center.

1995: Northland Crisis Nursery informally begins calling itself the Children's Shelter.

1996: Expanded Administrative offices by 50%.

1997: Board approves an oversight committee to oversee the possibility of growth; launched Capital Campaign.

1998: Completion of Capital Campaign draws $1.5 million; construction begins on H.A.L.O. House.

1999: H.A.L.O. House opens its doors for the first time.

2003: Northland Family Help Center celebrates 25 years of making a difference in northern Arizona. Since 1999, HALO House has sheltered 3,000 women and children. Community Education Program and the PEACE Project have educated almost ten thousand children and adults about violence prevention.
