NFHC’s 14-bed Children’s Shelter offers a lot to our community. The shelter, part of HALO House (opened in 1999), shares its address with NFHC’s Women’s Shelter. Our location is a secure one, with a fenced-in play area, airy rooms, and storage for each child’s belongings. |

Ways to Detect Child AbuseWhen a child has accidentally injured themselves, the bruise or mark usually appears on bony parts of the body, limited to one side. Also, the child’s story is consistent with the injury.
Non Accidental Injuries include:
Slap or grab marks
Numerous bruises. Bruises of different ages. Bruises on different parts of the body.
Cigarette burns. Pattern burns.
Belt or Cord marks. Human bite marks.
Genital bruising
Broken bone
Bald Patches

The Children's Shelter's doors are open 24 hours, 365 days a year. The facility and staff care for over a hundred children each year. Features include:
Personal storage for each child's belongings
24-hour supervision and care
Large living room for movies, games, etc.
Indoor playroom
Large backyard equipped with playhouse, swings, and slide
