R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Groups
Resources and Education for Supporting Peers and Encouraging Creative Transitions

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Groups offer students the opportunity to obtain accurate information on current issues pertaining to their life experience. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Groups create an environment and an appropriate arena for students to explore their questions and concerns relating to a diverse range of topics.

Designed for high school and middle school students, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Groups are implemented over the course of a semester on a weekly basis in a same-sex atmosphere. Generally, groups of ten students meet during the school day on premises. Because of the sensitive nature of the topics addressed the students are expected to uphold the dignity of other group members by participating and keeping all personal information shared confidential.

The program emphasizes the development of life skills for positive decision making through numerous educational activities including journaling and discussion. Class work is tailored to the needs of each group. School administrators determine how to select students for R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Groups for Guys and Girls.

Discussion Topics:

  • Self Esteem Building
  • Developing and Maintaining Healthy Relationships
  • Communication Skills
  • Positive Decision-Making Skills
  • Gender/Cultural Issues
  • Relationship Violence
  • Family Violence
  • Societal Violence
